Athens, Greece

If you're looking for history, civilization, culture, architecture, mythology, democracy, and philosophy Athens Greece is where you want to go. Athens is one of the oldest cities in the world, and dates back to over 3,000 years ago. It is argued that the greatest minds of ancient times were found in Athens. Today Athens Greece is the place where the past meets the present and is one of the most popular tourist destinations on the European continent. Athens is named in honor of the Greek goddess Athena, daughter of Zeus. Tourist attractions in Athens include the Acropolis, the parliament building at syntagma square and Kallimarmaron Stadium.


Acropolis: For most people, the first thing that comes to mind when they think about Athens is the Acropolis. The Acropolis hill (a.k.a the sacred rock of Athens) is one of the worlds most recignizable monuments of the world. It represents the greek history, and draws in many history lovers. On top of the hill there are remains of a temple. Today, it is still unknown what the temple itself represents. Acropolis. Syntagma Square: At the head of the Syntagma Square is where Greece's parliament building is located, the building was originally planned to have been placed ontop of the Acropolis hill. Syntagma Square Athens is the heart of the city and it is for all intents and purposes the most important square in all of Greece.Inside the Parliament building you will find The Tomb of The Unknown Soldier Greece. Every hour, guards called Evzones perform the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Greece changing of the guard. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Greece is also the monument of choice during major holidays, where top officials of Greece lay wreaths in honor of the nameless fallen Greek soldiers from battles gone by.

Kallimarmaron Stadium: Kallimarmaron Stadium is an impressive Athens stadium near the heart of the city, southeast of the Parliament Building and the National Garden. It dates back to ancient times and was the venue hosting athletic events for the Panathenaic Games. It was originally built out of wood, until they upgraded to marble. The stadium plays a major role in Greece's history because it was a place where everyone got together to enjoy watching sporting events which is something we do all over the world today.
