Delos, Greece

Delos in Greece is an ancient island. According to greek mythology Delos was the birthplace of Artemis and Apollo, the twins of Zeus. The sacred island is covered in a variety of temples and sanctuaries dedicated to a variety of gods. Today, it is a remarkable archaeological site located just two miles from Mykonos. Delos has many tourist attractions such as the Sacred Lake, Delos itself and the Hall of Bulls.

Sacred Lake: It is believed that Leto gave birth to Apollo on the shores of the Sacred Lake. The lake today is dry and marks the end of the sacred precinct at Delos. To the west of the lake there is a row of nine marble lions made of Naxian marble, dating back to seventh century B.C.

Delos: The island of Delos itself is an interesting tourist attraction because of it's greek mythology background and is an incredible archealogical site.

Hall of Bulls: The Hall of Bulls, also known as Ship Hall, dates back to the hellenistic period and is one of the best preserved buildings in Delos. It measures 220 feet from northest to southwest with a width of 29 feet. It stood on a granite platform attached to three marble steps. Walls surrounded the sides and the north end, and it is believed that the south end was most likely built to be left open.
